Centennial Celebration of the
American Antiquities Act of 1906

A Special Invitation to a
Luncheon and Forum to Honor

Senator John McCain

About the Award

American Antiquities Act of 1906

Letter from Senator Bob Graham and Lt. Gov. Lowell Thomas

Dear Friends,

As former recipients of the National Park Trust Bruce F. Vento Award, we want to extend an invitation to you to support this year’s annual Award Presentation and Luncheon on Thursday, June 8.  This year’s honored award winner is Senator John McCain.

The award, named after the late Congressman Vento of Minnesota, honors men and women in public service who have devoted a lifetime of distinguished skills, resourcefulness or innovation to the preservation of America’s land, water and historic resources.

This year’s luncheon event is very special.  In addition to Senator McCain joining the ranks of distinguished award winners, the Trust will also be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the American Antiquities Act of 1906.  Signed into law by President Theodore Roosevelt on June 8, 1906, the Act established the first general legal protection of cultural and natural resources in the United States and formed the foundation for today’s national system of parklands.

Your generous support of the Luncheon will benefit National Park Trust’s work to preserve and protect America’s national system of parks, wildlife and historic monuments, and will help to honor Senator McCain who has long supported legislation to protect, preserve and expand America’s national system of parklands.

We are honored to be a part of an organization so vital to the preservation of our national parklands, and hope you will join us in supporting this year’s annual awards presentation.

A member of the Luncheon Event Committee will give you a call in the next week to answer any questions you may have and to ask for your support.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Bob Graham                       Lowell Thomas, Jr.
