FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, DC - February 2003
Former Congresswoman Connie Morella
has been selected to receive the
Bruce F. Vento Public Service Award
for her record of support for parks
and conservation programs during her
16 years in the U.S. Congress.
"We could always count on Connie
Morella. She has been a leader for
parks and other concerns affecting
the quality of life of Americans."
said Paul Pritchard, president of
the National Park Trust. "Ms Morella
has been a strong spokesperson for
the resources in her district such
as the C & O Canal and the
protection of the Potomac. When
there were efforts to unravel laws
protecting America's parklands and
other areas of national concern,
Congresswoman Morella was a leader
in her party to protect our
heritage."
"I was privileged to serve with
Bruce in the Congress. I saw his
commitment to the environment and
his personal courage," said Connie
Morella. "I am truly honored to be
the recipient of the Vento Award for
Public Service."
According to the League of
Conservation Voter's National
Environmental Scorecard, Connie
Morella has a lifetime score of 89
percent, casting 185 pro-environment
Scorecard votes in 208
opportunities, a record that ranks
among the very best in Congress. In
2001, Morella’s score was an
exceptional 93 percent.
The Bruce F. Vento award will be
presented to Ms. Morella at the
annual meeting of the National Park
Trust in Washington, D.C. The
presentation will take place during
the week-long celebration of Earth Day.
