Buddy Bison's™ Biking Adventure PDF Print E-mail

This month Dick Jung reports on Buddy Bison's™ National Park Biking Adventure!

Buddy Bison™ jumped on top the Bike Friday handle bars of Dick Jung for a ten-day cycling tour along the Oregon and California Coast this past summer. The trek led through two of our nation's most spectacular national parks: Redwoods National Park and Crater Lake National Park.

Dick Jung says, "This was an exquisite trip through some of the most spectacular spots in the country. I appreciate the work NPT is doing to protect our National Parks. I wanted to bring my buddy bison along so I could share my ‘American Park Experience'."

Dick embarked on the 630-mile ride with Buddy Bison and 25 other riders, which was organized by Cycle America. The trip began in the Coastal Mountain Range, following the Smith River to the Pacific Ocean. Buddy Bison enjoyed three days pedaling the beautiful Pacific Coastline of Oregon, with spectacular ocean views.

The group stopped along the way at Cape Arago State Park before cycling under the canopy of the majestic redwoods in California's Redwoods National Park. Giant redwood trees line scenic Highway 199 which led Buddy Bison and his cycling companions into the Smith River Recreation Area.

Following the wild Rogue River north, Bison Buddy and other Cycle America riders arrived at the tour's grand destination, Crater Lake, located in Crater Lake National Park. Formed as caldera lake (made by a volcano, not by a crater!), Crater Lake is famous for its deep blue color and water clarity and as being the deepest lake in the United States.
