NPT Board Members and their spouses recently hosted a luncheon at the A.R.M. Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in south Florida to benefit the youth education programs of National Park Trust.Board members Julio and Leslie Gonzalez, Jay and Sally Nisberg, and Barry and Elinor Schimel organized the event to raise funds to support NPT's new Youth to Parks National Scholarship Fund. The scholarship funds will be used to reconnect children with nature and to provide environmental education. Buddy at Loxahatchee Butterfly Garden

As part of the Fund, NPT is partnering with the Wildlife Refuge to bring youth from the Palm Beach County Boys and Girls Club (BGC) to the refuge. Area Director of the BGC, Mary Leavenworth, attended the luncheon and spoke about her organization's new environmental priority for the children.

The Refuge staff has access to a wide array of curricula and can engage the students in hands on study at the refuge. Guests at the event participated in some of the educational programming that the Refuge has to offer. Guests were also treated to a trailer of the new Ken Burns series, The National Parks: America's Best Idea, which will air on PBS this September.

The A.R.M. Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge includes 145,800 acres of northern Everglades habitat and represents the only remnant of the northern Everglades in Palm Beach County, Florida.
