First Solar Visit

28537496_MKmwFr-4 As soon as we arrived at First Solar Tiffany Gray and Cheri Parco got the kids healthy snacks of apples, carrots, pretzels and water. Next, Chuck Anderson, the safety manager, provided a great safety introduction, indoor and outdoor glasses, and First Solar safety wristbands. Nathan Rudolph, a construction manager, took the kids on a tour, answering dozens of questions and having fun with the kids. Lehong Chow, the lead biologist, took the students to see the Welcome Garden and let them play with lizards and a small shovel-nosed snake. They were thrilled, and even remembered Lehong from her visit to school. Ashley Hudgens, the community liaison,  gave the kids a presentation on energy, worked through the worksheets with them, and let them color. The young ones got to go out on the balcony to play with tiny solar cars. Drew Metzger got photos throughout the visit.

Joshua Tree Happenings with Our New Buddy Bison School

At the end of October, I had a chance to catch some sun while exploring Joshua Tree National Park in California with my friends from Eagle Mountain School (CA). With the help of volunteers from First Solar, they spent the day exploring and learning about the importance of our desert parks.

At Joshua Tree National Park, the kids visited White Tank which is home to many stone landscapes. They hiked through rocky trails and learned how the boulders were created by thousands of years of wind and rain! Fun fact: Despite having little rain, the Mojave Desert parks are filled with over 750 species of plants! A big thank you to Rangers Lorna and Caryn for guiding the students and First Solar for sponsoring these three new Buddy Bison schools.
