The National Park Trust Honors Landscape Architects

AMERICA ENDOWED WITH 100 PARKS FROM
ASLA’S 100TH ANNIVERSARY

Washington DC - The National Park Trust will be presenting The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) with the 1999 National Park Trust Award of Honor.

The National Park Trust Award of Honor is the sole award presented each year by the Trust and is given to an organization or individual that has contributed to the well-being of America’s greatest endowment, our national and state system of parks.

In honor of their 100-year anniversary, ASLA launched their 100 Parks, 100 Years program in April 1999 with the goal of creating or renovating 100 parks and greenspaces across the country. ASLA’s 100 Parks are expected to range from inner-city parks, community gathering places and civic gardens to greenways, playgrounds, waterfront areas, riverway sites and therapeutic gardens for seniors.

"Our work will not only add beauty to America’s cities, but will serve to unite communities, add health benefits and bring people closer to each other and their natural surroundings," said Peter Kirsch, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of ASLA.

"ASLA’s centennial celebration of establishing 100 parks is a feat beyond comparison," said Paul Pritchard, President of the National Park Trust. "It represents the true origin of ASLA’s society, of their profession, and of their continuing commitment to the roots of their profession."

Founded in 1899, the American Society of Landscape Architects is the national association that represents the profession of landscape architecture in the United States.

The National Park Trust is the only land conservancy organization dedicated to the protection of America's parklands. The Trust specifically functions to secure privately held property in or adjacent to parks, acquires land to create new national parks, and assists in the preservation of all areas of ‘national significance’.
