Conservation Leader Donates Land to Initiate
Property for Parks Program

Karen, Jim and Ryan MacFarland don't see themselves as heroes. They just love the parks. Yet they are the leaders of a movement to donate unwanted but valuable property for parklands.

The MacFarlands donation is an interest in land they own in North Carolina. Their donation of property to this program will allow NPT to sell it and use the money to help preserve our national system of parks. Since 1983, NPT has been the beneficiary and transfer agent of over $10 million worth of donated property. Our dedicated staff has more than 50 years of experience working with park issues.

"My family has long been committed to finding creative ways to protect lands. We have donated this land in North Carolina to the National Park Trust, which we found very special, and we found very little use for. The National Park Trust will sell or utilize the property to help save the endangered inholdings in the national and state park systems. This makes us feel better than any cash than we might get" says Jim MacFarland.
