On Tuesday May 2, 2000 Ms. Gaia Jungeblodt, Assistant Director of the Secretariat of ICOMOS, the
International Council on Monuments and
Sites made a presentation to the group. ICOMOS, www.icomos.org
is an international non-governmental organization of professionals, dedicated to the conservation of the world's historic monuments and sites. ICOMOS provides a forum for professional dialogue and a vehicle for the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of information on conservation principles, techniques, and policies.
After this very educational meeting, the group said farewell to Paris. We boarded one of France's Trains a Grande Vitesse (TGV - Very Fast Train) for an exciting ride to Marseilles in the beautiful area know as Provence. From here we moved on to Aix en Provence, our final destination.
Many villages, but few towns are as well preserved as elegant Aix-en-Provence. One of France's most creative geniuses
called this area home: the post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, many of whose painting feature the nearby countryside, especially Mont Ste-Victoire.
