Overview of Planning Your Park Trip

Below is a brief overview of how to plan your Buddy Bison School Program trip. For a full explanation please read our guide.

With help from the National Park Trust (NPT), start by exploring park options near you. Your NPT contact can offer a wide variety of park and program choices for you to consider, or view some of the options here. Many park education programs align with Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core Curriculum. Don’t forget to consider the season, number of kids, and their age levels when deciding which park to visit. Once you have selected a park and confirmed your group size, the rest of the planning now falls on your NPT staff contact. NPT will work with park staff to set up your trip and coordinate all the day’s activities.

  • Submit proper paperwork to NPT and your administrators; send home liability and photo waivers to be signed. Bring these on the day of the trip if we are joining you at the park.
  • Book your school bus from approved bus companies. Make sure they have the correct address of the school and the park. Confirm pick up and return time. Please note that NPT will cover the cost of all buses, but reservations must be made by school staff.
  • Remind your students to wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Share your photos with NPT. Collect reflections and thank-you notes from your students. These can be drawings, handwritten notes, photos, artwork, student quotes, etc. Send us your own thoughts and feedback on the trip as well.
