Gateway to the Stars
Saturday, May 18, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 9:30 pm EDT
The stars may be light-years away, but you can get a close-up peek at them on May 18 when Gateway Arch National Park hosts special stargazing experience. From 12:00pm to 4:00pm in the Museum at the Gateway Arch, visitors can earn a unique “Night Skies” patch with a National Park Service Ranger, take a selfie in the star-studded photo booth, and explore the constellations with the flight crew from the Challenger Learning Center.
Tally ho! Nature Cat will also be at the Park to celebrate National Kids to Parks Day from 12:00 to 4:00pm. Always eager and enthusiastic to be outdoors, Nature Cat will bring nature- and STEM-focused, curriculum-based fun to children ages 3-8. Nature Cat is an animated PBS KIDS series designed to encourage children to explore and develop connections with the natural world. Find out more about this event here.
The evening program begins at 8:00pm and features a ranger-led interpretive talk, followed by a St. Louis Astronomical Society-led telescope viewing of craters on the Moon; the planets Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn; and other celestial objects (weather permitting).
Visitors are to meet in the Education Classroom inside the Arch Visitor Center. The ranger-led, indoor talks will take place regardless of weather. The outdoor telescope viewing events may be cancelled if skies are cloudy and if there is heavy rain. Call 314-655- 1708 the afternoon of the event for an update on the weather.
