In 2011, Chevron partnered with NPT to oversee the management of the Ivanpah Desert Tortoise Research Facility in the Mojave National Preserve in CA. Located on seven acres adjacent to the Preserve, the solar-powered facility and its outdoor dens are being used to hatch, study and protect the threatened desert tortoise. NPT reached an agreement with Chevron that would allow the Trust to manage the facility as interim steward while researchers from the University of California, Davis and the Savannah River Ecology Lab (GA) conducted their research on the tortoises and the National Park Service could take ownership of the facility. Chevron also has donated funds to NPT that are being used to fund tortoise research at the facility over several years.

nipscoIn 2013, NPT partnered with the Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) and the National Park Service (NPS) to acquire two critical parcels of land which will expand the boundary of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore near Gary, IN. NIPSCO provided the funding to acquire the properties and also helped facilitate the donation of an additional parcel. Ultimately, the land will be used to develop trails adjacent to the visitor center with wayside exhibits on restoration methods being used throughout the lakeshore.
