A short interpretive program will be followed by telescope viewing.

Meet at Grand View Point at Island in the Sky. Bring a chair, water, a red flashlight (if you have one), and warm clothes.
FREE
Programs will be canceled in the event of bad weather.
Sections of Highway 313 are open range for cattle. Use extreme caution when driving to/from the park at night.

Visitors, young and old, are invited to the Denali Visitor Center to design a birch leaf representing “What Denali Means to Me!”. How to design the birch leaf is up to each person. On the leaves, visitors can write a short poem reflecting how they feel about Denali, use colors to represent emotions about a significant experience in the park, draw a picture that captures a favorite place, or combine different ideas. The sky is the limit! Each leaf will be displayed and become a part of the exhibit in the Denali Visitor Center throughout the 2017 summer season.

Sled Dog Demonstration

Sled Dog Kennels

These are no racing dogs! Denali's Alaskan huskies are stockier than dogs used in races like the Iditarod - they're built for power rather than speed. Their winter job is two-fold, as their patrols around the wilderness of the park also end up leaving great trails for skiers or recreational dog mushers to travel. In summer, they are furry ambassadors, helping people understand what it means to travel in the Alaskan wilderness. At one of our demonstrations, you'll learn about the history of dogs in the park and watch a ranger ride a sled pulled by a team of sled dogs.

Demonstration times vary during the year, peaking at 3 demonstrations per day during the main summer months.

Kids to Parks Day- Madera Canyon

Green Valley - Madera Canyon

Hike it Baby has partnered with the National Parks Trust for a day of outdoor play. Bring your kids out to celebrate our public lands!

This will be an easy hike in one of the most famous birding areas in Arizona. I'll have my binoculars so we may even get to appreciate some of the more unusual birds. Our pace will be gentle, and we will take stops to look at plants or wildlife and let kids explore the creek which will likely be flowing. We will also break for snacks, and in honor of my birthday I'll have something special to share.

At approx 5 thousand feet of elevation, the weather should be significantly cooler than Tucson. A light jacket or layers may be necessary, and I'll post a weather update on Facebook closer to the event.

A day pass for parking is 5 dollars (exact change is needed) or a Coronado pass or National Parks Pass is accepted as well.
