The city of Goodyear is hosting a local Kids to Parks Day event on Saturday, May 19 from 8-10 a.m. at Goodyear Community Park, 3151 N Litchfield Road.
Event Activities include a water balloon toss, relay races, kite flying, hula hoop and jump rope competitions. Enjoy nature in the parks and support a great program through the National Park Trust!

Join a park ranger for a fun hike exploring an ancient ancestral Hopi pueblo. Learn about the history of the migration of the Hopi people and see how they lived prehistorically at the Homolovi II Pueblo. Hike is one half mile, ADA accessible and will include pottery identification, stone tools and artifacts and to cap it off solar viewing in the newly developed Winslow Homolovi Observatory.

Channel Islands National Park invites the public to celebrate the annual Kids to Parks Day at an event on May 19 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the park visitor center in the Ventura Harbor. This free event, sponsored by the National Park Trust will feature family-friendly activities, ranger-led talks, and the park’s junior ranger programs.
Children will have the opportunity to participate in three different junior ranger programs at the event, allowing them to earn badges as a Channel Islands National Park Junior Ranger, an Underwater Explorer, or a Junior Archaeologist badge.
The event will also feature family-friendly activities that children of all ages can participate in, including buttons, fox masks, ocean animal sun catchers, and more. At 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, a park ranger will discuss marine adaptations and ocean stewardship at the center’s marine life exhibit.
Event Name:Kites in the Park
Event Location:Spring Canyon Community Park, Fort Collins, CO
Untangle the strings and tighten the bows, the annual Kites in the Park is Sunday, May 20 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Spring Canyon Community Park in Fort Collins, CO. For 10 years, The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department has hosted this free event, welcoming community members to grab their kites and let them soar.
Kite attractions from around the country will be present for kite flying, demonstrations, and competitions. Attendees can purchase kite making kits and decorate their own kite. Local artisans, food trucks, and recreational enthusiasts will be at the festival with items for sale, as well.
The Confucius Institute at Colorado State University demonstrates flying large Chinese kites. Children are invited to participate in the coordinated Rokkaku kites battles by trying to knock other kites out of the sky. This year, kids are also encouraged to join in on other kite games, and sign up to participate in the fun-filled stick rodeo, hosted by the Greeley Stampede.
Crowds exceeding 6,000 people are expected.

Join us for the annual Fishing Derby at Prisoners Lake in Devou Park. Fun for the whole family, this event is free and open to the public. Additionally, the City is celebrating the 8th annual Kids to Parks Day issuing a proclamation of support for the National Park Trust’s initiative to encourage today’s youth to enjoy and explore parks throughout the country.

Bring your adventurous side with you and explore EP Tom Sawyer State Park! Our park interpreters will lead a guided hike through the Goose Creek Nature trail and talk about the various species of bird, trees, and plants that we observe along the way. At the end of the hike, a children's nature craft will be provided to remember the experience for years to come! Meet at the Picnic Grove, near the Archery Range (down the road from the BMX track)
Event Name:Gaithersburg Book Festival
Event Location:Grounds of Gaithersburg City Hall
The Gaithersburg Book Festival is an annual celebration of great books and great writing that has made its mark as one of the nation’s top literary events. It takes place Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of City Hall (31 S. Summit Ave.) in Gaithersburg, Md.
The festival will feature more than 100 best-selling and award-winning authors who will participate in talks, panel discussions and book signings throughout the day. Authors include:
Maria Gianferrari, Karina Yan Glaser, Meryl Gordon, Lauren Grodstein, , Greer Hendricks, Gareth Hinds, Carl Hoffman, Sam Kean, Sarah Pekkanen, S. L. Price, and Nicholas Reynolds, with many more still to come.
Other festival highlights include exhibiting authors, a Children’s Village, literary exhibitors, the Brew & Vine Cafe featuring live entertainment, Friends of the Library used book sale, and onsite new book sales by Politics & Prose. Visitors of all ages also have the opportunity to participate in free interactive, hands-on writing workshops on a variety of topics.
The Gaithersburg Book Festival is presented in partnership with Politics & Prose, Homewood Suites Gaithersburg, Montgomery County Public Libraries, Dawson’s Market, Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce, Rio Washingtonian Center, The Universities at Shady Grove, The Washington Independent Review of Books and Montgomery County Public Schools, with grant support from the Maryland State Arts Council.
Admission, parking and accessible shuttle buses from Shady Grove Metro and Lakeforest Mall are FREE.

Eagan parkrun is the local, free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning in Thomas Lake Park. Start line is at the Thomas Lake Elementary. Eagan parkrun is open to all abilities feel free to come down and check it out.
1) Where is it? The event takes place at Thomas Lake Park, 4350 Thomas Lake Road, Eagan, MN 55122. See Course page for more details.
2) What does it cost to join in? Nothing - it's free! But please register before your first run. Only ever register with parkrun once. Don't forget to bring a printed copy of your barcode.
3) How fast do I have to be? We all run for our own enjoyment. Please come along and join in whatever your pace!
4) We're friendly! Every week we grab a post parkrun coffee in Starbucks @ Kowalski's Market, 1646 Diffley Rd, Eagan, MN 55122 - please come and join us!
5) Children 10 and under are welcome to run with a participating guardian.

Visit us on Kids to Park Day for a morning of family outdoor fun on our Family Hike Day! Join a ranger for a family-friendly short hike along the backcountry hiking trail, where we'll do scavenger hunts and other fun activities.
Event Name:Kite flying over the Great Salt Lake
Event Location:Great Salt Lake State Marina
Actually an inland sea spanning over 1,100 square miles, it's often windy along the shores of the Great Salt Lake. So let's have some fun with the breeze and fly some kites! We will have twenty five kits on hand, but feel free to bring your own if you have them. A ranger will also be present to answer any questions you may have about the largest U.S. body of water west of the Mississippi.
Meet under the Yacht Club pavilion, to the left as you enter the park. After the kites are made, we'll go fly them on the beach.

This three-hour festival will feature bouncy castles and an inflatable basketball station, a magician, face painters, slacklines, bubble soccer balls, a pixie bike race course, a coloring station, food trucks, music, and an outdoor scavenger hunt along the Roanoke River greenway and throughout Wasena Park. Join us in this celebration of our natural amenities and public open spaces!
