Join a park ranger for a fun hike exploring an ancient ancestral Hopi pueblo. Learn about the history of the migration of the Hopi people and see how they lived prehistorically at the Homolovi II Pueblo. Hike is one half mile, ADA accessible and will include pottery identification, stone tools and artifacts and to cap it off solar viewing in the newly developed Winslow Homolovi Observatory.

Event Description:

Channel Islands National Park invites the public to celebrate the annual Kids to Parks Day at an event on May 19 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the park visitor center in the Ventura Harbor. This free event, sponsored by the National Park Trust will feature family-friendly activities, ranger-led talks, and the park’s junior ranger programs.

Children will have the opportunity to participate in three different junior ranger programs at the event, allowing them to earn badges as a Channel Islands National Park Junior Ranger, an Underwater Explorer, or a Junior Archaeologist badge.

The event will also feature family-friendly activities that children of all ages can participate in, including buttons, fox masks, ocean animal sun catchers, and more. At 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, a park ranger will discuss marine adaptations and ocean stewardship at the center’s marine life exhibit.

A family friendly global music experience in the magical Mojave.

The Joshua Tree Music Festival is one of the nation’s premier family friendly festivals. An intimate festival where lasting friendships are created, the element of belonging is tangible, and the experience is real. The music is diverse, and the Kidsville schedule is action packed. Magically magnificent art installations, a full spectrum of yoga classes, music playshops, late night Astronomy theater, circus performers, and a World Market further inspire and intrigue. Discover your new favorite band and dozens of new friends in the shadows of the Joshua Tree National Park.

Kidsville is brimming with interactive, hands-on projects happening throughout each day. Circus street shows, creation station projects, slack line instruction, music performances, free-range art, and the Love Boat keep the children inspired. Kids 10 and under attend the festivals for free, and young ones aged 11-16 get in for half price. Kidsville is fully shaded (as is the music bowl), and centrally located at the at the festival, within earshot of the music bowl.

Event Description:

Join a free outdoor guided hike perfect for families, groups and individuals. Led by trained naturalists, the walk is on dirt trails with easy to moderate difficulty. The program is free and open to the public. All ages and dogs on leash welcome.

Help the Conservancy restore vital habitat by planting natives and removing invasive species in various preserves around the peninsula. Training, tools, camaraderie and beautiful scenery are provided, but bring close-toed shoes, water and sun protection. The workday will be cancelled if it rains. Event Name:Kites in the Park

Event Location:Spring Canyon Community Park, Fort Collins, CO

Event Description:

Untangle the strings and tighten the bows, the annual Kites in the Park is Sunday, May 20 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Spring Canyon Community Park in Fort Collins, CO. For 10 years, The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department has hosted this free event, welcoming community members to grab their kites and let them soar.

Kite attractions from around the country will be present for kite flying, demonstrations, and competitions. Attendees can purchase kite making kits and decorate their own kite. Local artisans, food trucks, and recreational enthusiasts will be at the festival with items for sale, as well.

The Confucius Institute at Colorado State University demonstrates flying large Chinese kites. Children are invited to participate in the coordinated Rokkaku kites battles by trying to knock other kites out of the sky. This year, kids are also encouraged to join in on other kite games, and sign up to participate in the fun-filled stick rodeo, hosted by the Greeley Stampede.

Crowds exceeding 6,000 people are expected.

New Castle County invites all to stay after the Police and Princess 5K (see www.races2run.com) and Kids Dash to join in a variety of fun outdoor adventures and activities to celebrate Kids to Parks Day at Rockwood Park. Kids will have fun learning a variety of “survival skills” from setting up a tent to orienteering. There will be nature hikes and scavenger hunts along with presentations about the local wildlife.

Kids to Parks Day at Rockwood is the perfect way for youngsters and their families to learn about the many adventures available in New Castle County Parks. All ages are welcome. Activities are most appropriate for ages 10 and under. Kids to Park Day is a free event but registration is requested.

The Richmond, Indiana Parks & Recreation Department will host a Kids to Parks Day event from 1pm to 3pm in Glen Miller Park. The event will kick off with a mayoral proclamation from Richmond mayor Dave Snow, followed by a scavenger hunt throughout the park exploring the history and current amenities of the park. We will kick off the Inclusive Colors event with an inclusive walk, run, wheel, celebrating all individuals and their unique abilities! The run will begin at 9:30 a.m., but registration will start at 8:30 a.m. Stick around after the walk, run, wheel to create a messy masterpiece. Participants will create their own special masterpiece of art using a variety of mediums – paints, chalk, crayons - and in your own style - using your hands, brushes, water shooters and more! There will be an Inclusive Network Expo going on from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Event Description:

The Gaithersburg Book Festival is an annual celebration of great books and great writing that has made its mark as one of the nation’s top literary events. It takes place Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of City Hall (31 S. Summit Ave.) in Gaithersburg, Md.

The festival will feature more than 100 best-selling and award-winning authors who will participate in talks, panel discussions and book signings throughout the day. Authors include:
Maria Gianferrari, Karina Yan Glaser, Meryl Gordon, Lauren Grodstein, , Greer Hendricks, Gareth Hinds, Carl Hoffman, Sam Kean, Sarah Pekkanen, S. L. Price, and Nicholas Reynolds, with many more still to come.

Other festival highlights include exhibiting authors, a Children’s Village, literary exhibitors, the Brew & Vine Cafe featuring live entertainment, Friends of the Library used book sale, and onsite new book sales by Politics & Prose. Visitors of all ages also have the opportunity to participate in free interactive, hands-on writing workshops on a variety of topics.

The Gaithersburg Book Festival is presented in partnership with Politics & Prose, Homewood Suites Gaithersburg, Montgomery County Public Libraries, Dawson’s Market, Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce, Rio Washingtonian Center, The Universities at Shady Grove, The Washington Independent Review of Books and Montgomery County Public Schools, with grant support from the Maryland State Arts Council.

Admission, parking and accessible shuttle buses from Shady Grove Metro and Lakeforest Mall are FREE.

This will be the first Kids to Parks Day organized by the Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department. Events will take place primarily at two (2) parks, the Truxtun Park and the Water Works Park. Eagan parkrun is the local, free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning in Thomas Lake Park. Start line is at the Thomas Lake Elementary. Eagan parkrun is open to all abilities feel free to come down and check it out.

Event Description:

The Mississippi River Water Trail and the Army Corps of Engineers is proud to present Riverlands Paddle Festival! Bring your kids out to the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, MO for Kids to Parks Day! After exploring the hiking trails and wildlife viewing platforms, you and your family can try out kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle boards in the calm backwaters of Ellis Bay. The Mississippi River Water Trail Association will provide trained paddling instructors and on the water safety boaters, so if you've never paddling before, this is your chance to try it! Admission to the park is FREE and the cost to paddle is $5/person to cover the required American Canoe Association insurance. We have plenty of life jackets for everyone and all paddlers will be required to wear one. Kids age 11 and under will be required to paddle with a parent or guardian.
