This three-hour festival will feature bouncy castles and an inflatable basketball station, a magician, face painters, slacklines, bubble soccer balls, a pixie bike race course, a coloring station, food trucks, music, and an outdoor scavenger hunt along the Roanoke River greenway and throughout Wasena Park. Join us in this celebration of our natural amenities and public open spaces!

Event Name:Ramble Weekend

Event Description:

The Pigg River Ramble Weekend begins with a Friday night float down the Blackwater River beginning at dark. The Blackwater Blackout is a 3-mile float that is challenging and fun as participants float from start to finish by “moonlight”. Festivities include music, food, shuttle service and paddling.

The Saturday float is down the mighty Pigg River beginning at Waid Park and ending at Lynch Park. The Pigg River Ramble is an 8-mile float that is geared toward families who want to race or take a leisure float. Racers have an opportunity to win awards for their efforts. Festivities include food, awards ceremony, shuttle service and paddling. The 3rd Annual Pigg River Rumble 5K Race will occur the morning of the Pigg River Ramble. It will take place at Waid Park and make the weekend even more challenging.

The Pigg River Ramble Weekend ends with a Sunday morning float down the Blackwater River in the daylight hours. The Breakfast on the Blackwater float begins with a mouthwatering breakfast, provided by the Hub Restaurant, along the river bank prior to the 3-mile leisure float. This is a family event that includes food, shuttle service, and paddling.

Kids to Parks Day is an annual nation-wide event that encourages outdoor play and adventure. Organized by the National Park Trust, municipalities across the nation participate each year. To celebrate Kids to Parks Day, Roanoke Parks and Recreation hosts a free outdoor festival each spring. This year's event will include a scavenger hunt, river clean-up, face painting, climbing wall, environmental education, disc golf, relay races, slackline, food trucks, and so much more!
